Opportunity for Communications Advisor to Join Our Land and Water

Our Land and Water National Science Challenge is currently seeking a Communications Advisor to join us on a full-time fixed-term contract ending 28 June 2024.

Based at our Lincoln campus, you will play a critical part in building the communication of and engagement with Our Land and Water research, in order to meet the needs of the final two years of the Challenge, when research outputs will be at their highest level.

What you will be doing

• Organise workshops, symposium, webinars, training, field trips, roadshows and other events and activities to improve understanding and use of OLW tools and research.
• Identify and form relationships with regional council and community end-users of our research to develop effective communication pathways.
• Oversee communications from short term (<1 yr) research projects, such as Rural Professionals Fund and Think Piece research.
• Giving a human voice to our research (e.g., including farmer or community voices/stories in communications).
• Exploring more effective pathways for engagement with Māori.
• Liaising closely with the OLW Senior Communications Advisor/Manager to ensure consistent messaging.

Your ideal background

• Experienced in a previous communications role, ideally in a science or agri-food sector organisation, or a regional authority.
• Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, science communication, or alternative relevant qualification.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
• Technology-savvy, with experience in updating website content (WordPress), basic image editing/re-sizing, EDM production, and a willingness to use new tools if required.
• A working understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, willingness to acquire a broad knowledge of Te Ao Māori and familiarity with Te Reo greetings/signoffs.
• Experience developing events, training or workshops (online and in-person), with strong project and event management skills.
• Creative thinker with innovative ideas and exceptional communications skills.
